French researchers have created a ceramic composite that is significantly more durable than conventional ceramics by mimicking the layered structure of mollusk shells through a freezing process. The material withstands temperatures up to 1,112°F and offers substantially improved fracture resistance, making it suitable for aerospace applications and other demanding environments.
