China has established its first dedicated research facility for photonic computing, a technology that harnesses light rather than electrical signals to process data. The Shanghai Key Laboratory of Integrated Photonic Computing Chips and Systems aims to develop more energy-efficient solutions for powering artificial intelligence and advanced computing systems.
