Utah kernreactor levert voor eerst stroom voor AI-datacentrum

Back to overview

The University of Utah will operate its TRIGA research reactor to generate electricity for the first time in 50 years this summer, powering a small AI data center on campus. The project uses a compact Brayton Cycle system to convert the reactor's thermal output into approximately 2-3 kilowatts of electricity, which will run a high-performance GPU for AI workloads. This proof-of-concept demonstrates how nuclear energy could support growing computational demands for artificial intelligence systems, utilizing helium as a working fluid instead of traditional steam-based turbines.
