Japan onderzoekt afgelegen eiland als mogelijke plek voor nucleair afval

Japan has initiated a geological assessment of Minamitori Island, located approximately 1,900 kilometers southeast of Tokyo, to determine its suitability as a permanent storage facility for high-level radioactive waste. The survey addresses Japan's long-standing challenge of finding an appropriate location to safely dispose of spent nuclear fuel and other long-lived radioactive materials.
