Researchers from New York University and the Colorado School of Mines have resolved a long-standing physics puzzle by studying how sprinklers behave when water flows backward through them. Their experiments revealed that internal fluid forces cause reverse-suction sprinklers to rotate in the opposite direction, finally explaining the mechanics behind this counterintuitive phenomenon.
