Robotics pioneer Colin Angle has unveiled a new quadruped robot called "Familiar," designed for human companionship rather than industrial tasks. The machine uses local multimodal AI to learn and adapt through interaction, featuring 23 degrees of freedom for expressive movement and sensors for touch, sight, and sound. Unlike factory robots, Familiar prioritizes emotional connection and intuitive responses, representing a shift toward AI systems that integrate naturally into daily human life.
