ISS-experiment meet aardmagnetisme met quantumapparaat

Back to overview

Researchers successfully tested a quantum device called OSCAR-QUBE aboard the International Space Station to measure Earth's magnetic field using a diamond with microscopic defects. The compact device, measuring just 10 centimeters per side, operated reliably for 10 months in 2021-2022 and demonstrated that quantum magnetometers could eventually be deployed on small satellites instead of expensive large spacecraft. The technology uses nitrogen-vacancy centers in the diamond that shift their energy levels in response to magnetic fields, detected through laser light and microwaves.
