Robot brengt 16e-eeuwse scheepswrak in kaart op 2,4 km diepte
Back to overview
A remotely operated robot has successfully explored a 16th-century shipwreck, the Camarat 4, located 1.5 miles beneath the Mediterranean Sea. The French Navy and underwater archaeologists used the tethered robot to capture approximately 86,000 high-resolution images and recover artifacts while operating under extreme pressure of nearly 150 atmospheres. The robot's precision manipulators and careful navigation prevented damage to fragile debris and sediment, demonstrating how advanced deep-sea robotics enables archaeological documentation in environments where human intervention is impossible.
