Rusland test kernbrandstof met actiniden in natriumgekoelde reactor

Back to overview

Russia's Beloyarsk BN-800 fast neutron reactor has successfully completed three fuel cycles using experimental uranium-plutonium MOX fuel assemblies containing americium-241 and neptunium-237. The trial, part of a research program running until 2035, aims to transmute minor actinides—long-lived radioactive elements in nuclear waste—into isotopes with shorter half-lives or stable forms. This technology could significantly reduce the volume of radioactive waste requiring deep geological disposal and accelerate radiation safety by hundreds of times compared to natural decay.
