Researchers have developed a single-reactor method that converts mixed plastic waste directly into hydrogen fuel with 90% purity, eliminating the need for costly sorting beforehand. The Alkaline Thermal Treatment process, tested by UCLA and South Korean scientists, successfully handles the three most common hard-to-recycle plastics in one step.
