Kustwacht VS zet zelfvarende drones in op Grote Meren

Back to overview

The U.S. Coast Guard will deploy autonomous Saildrones across the Great Lakes from May through October to enhance maritime surveillance and emergency response. These wind- and solar-powered vessels will patrol over 90,000 square miles, supporting border security, detecting illegal activity, and collecting weather data. The drones are equipped with radar, cameras, and collision-avoidance AI, with human operators maintaining continuous oversight and manual control capabilities when needed.
