The US Geological Survey has discovered an estimated 2.3 million metric tons of recoverable lithium in the Appalachian region, primarily in the Carolinas, Maine, and New Hampshire. This deposit could supply enough lithium to manufacture batteries for 130 million electric vehicles and 1.6 million grid-scale batteries, representing 328 years of current US lithium imports. The findings underscore the importance of domestic lithium resources for US mineral security as global demand for the critical mineral continues to rise.
