The United States has received 1.7 metric tons of high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) from Japan, marking the largest single international uranium shipment in the history of the National Nuclear Security Administration. HALEU, which contains higher concentrations of uranium-235, is essential fuel for next-generation nuclear reactors, enabling them to operate more efficiently with smaller designs. The material, sourced from Japan's decommissioned Fast Critical Assembly program, will be processed to support the U.S. development of advanced nuclear technologies and help establish a domestic
