The U.S. Department of Defense is developing AI-powered target recognition systems to detect and destroy drones faster than human operators can. The C-UAS Close-In Kinetic Defeat Enhancement project uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to automatically identify aerial threats and distinguish them from non-threats like birds. The initiative will be implemented in three phases: first upgrading remote weapon stations on military vehicles, then expanding to ground and maritime platforms, and finally equipping infantry with AI-assisted targeting for small arms.
