British firm WaiV Robotics has developed an automated platform enabling drones to safely take off and land from moving ships in rough sea conditions. The system uses a patent-pending catch-lock-release mechanism combined with AI-powered predictive algorithms to secure aircraft immediately upon landing, preventing movement caused by waves or vessel motion. The technology works on vessels as small as 10 meters long without requiring modifications to drone hardware or software, and currently supports aircraft weighing up to 15 kilograms, with future versions planned for smaller and larger UAVs.
