China's Three Gorges Corporation has activated what it describes as the world's largest hybrid solar facility in Xinjiang, combining conventional photovoltaic panels with concentrated solar technology. The 1-gigawatt plant stores thermal energy in molten salt, enabling it to generate electricity for eight hours after dark without relying on battery systems.
